Koniom nie przyzwyczajonym do obroku w początkach służby wojskowej należy celem zapobieżenia zaburzeniom żołądkowym dawać więcej paszy (siana, słomy), mniej zaś owsa i stopniowo dopro- wadzać wysokość racji ziarna do normy.
Pasza zielona
Pasza zielona jest pożyteczną dla wszystkich koni, a konieczną dla źle trawiących i ozdrowieńców będących po przebyciu ciężkich cho- rób. Zielona pasza jest najbardziej odpowiednią dla skarmiania w okre- sie kwitnięcia.
W razie zastosowania wyłącznego karmienia trawą na pastwis- kach lub w stajni nie powinno ono trwać dłużej nad dwa tygodnie, aby zbytnio nie osłabiać koni. Zieloną paszę daje się w ciągu całego dnia, a na noc zakłada się siano.
Przy przejściu z paszy suchej na zieloną i odwrotnie, zarówno jak i w każdym innym wypadku zmiany rodzaju paszy, należy zachować stopniowanie, przyzwyczajając konia powoli do zmian, a to w celu uniknięcia zaburzeń żołądkowych.
Crib biting horses should only be given oats in nose bags and hay as often as possible in rope nets.
If the need arises to feed a horse that is saddled and bridled, one must remove the iron weymouth and curb bit from its muzzle and loosen its girth straps and noseband.
In the case of horses not accustomed to feeding methods in the beginning of their military service, to prevent gastric disorders these should be given more fodder (hay, straw) and less oats and later the amount of grain should be gradually brought up to par.
Green fodder
Green fodder is good for all horses, and necessary for those that have digestion problems or are convalescing after serious illnesses. Green fodder is most suitable as feed for horses when it is flowering.
When feeding horses exclusively grass on pastures or in the stable, this should not last longer than two weeks, so as not to unduly weaken the horses. Green fodder can be given throughout the day, and at night should be replaced by hay.
When exchanging dry feed for green fodder and vice versa, as in any other case of change in the type of feed, this must be done gradually, slowly getting the horse used to the changes, in order to avoid stomach problems.
