Zamiast słomy mogą być używane jako podściółka trociny i torf, rozsypane na grubość 8–10 cm. W ciągu dnia podściółka ta powinna być rozsunięta na dwie strony: przy odświeżaniu postępuje się z nią jak ze słomą. Podściółka z trocin i torfu ma duże zalety, gdyż pochłania zapach amoniaku, wydzielany z moczu, daje koniowi suche i dostatecznie ciepłe legowisko i chroni strzałki kopyt przed gniciem.
Instead of straw, bedding may be of sawdust and peat, scattered to a depth of 8-10 cm. During the day, this bedding should be raked to two sides: this should be refreshed in the same way as straw. Sawdust and peat as bedding has great advantages, as it absorbs the smell of ammonia excreted in the urine, giving the horse a dry and reasonably warm bed and protects against thrush – rotting of the frogs of the hooves.
