“As adjutant of the regiment, I left behind, with the approval of Wieniawa of course, several souvenirs, such as the beautiful heraldic trumpet banners designed by Michał Bylina and modelled after those of the Napoleonic cavalrymen. The money for these was raised by Wieniawa and it was a considerable sum, because 4 banners cost 5,000 zloties. They were beautifully embroidered with silver and gold, and were used only for the regiment’s more im- portant parades. The regimental orchestra was also tidied up and its members were given embroidered sleeves featuring silver triangles, not to mention clothes designed for the timpanist, and especially his horse. (...) In the time Wieniawa commanded the regiment, the regimental badge was estab- lished according to my design, which was approved at a meeting of officers, with an alteration in the drawing’s fine detail being proposed by the engraver Gomtarczyk on Miodowa Street. The badge was in the form of a silver eight-pointed star, with smaller rays between the main eight. Its centre featured an amaranthine field and the initials of the regiment J.P., while the field was framed by a ribbon in the same colours as the ribbon for the Order of Military Virtue. The regulations, developed by us and approved by the Ministry of Defence, laid down that the regimental badge would be awarded to soldiers who had seen action, and during peacetime, officers who had served two years in the regiment, and Light Cavalrymen after a year’s service”.
