In the initial period, coats sewn for officers were double-breasted with 6 buttons and a turn- down collar, to which fur was often attached. In 1936, this element of the uniform was unified and began to apply to the whole army. The style of the coat was also changed – to single- breasted, with a turndown collar, fastened with 6 buttons, and made of heavy material. The coat for officers also had a dragoon – a strap pinning the back of the coat at the waist.
From 1919, epaulets on uniforms featured Józef Piłsudski’s monogram, which was also to be found on ornamental saddles and heraldic trumpet banners. Following the death of the Supreme Commander, the left epaulet featured an additional, distinctive black cord as a "permanent sign of mourning".
The dress uniform consisted of a khaki coloured jacket, with which was worn a baize belt of the same colour on a backing of chamois leather fastened by a metal buckle adorned with the profile of a head in an antique helmet. From 1929, the jacket went with long dark blue “chasseur” trousers with double amaranthine stripes and silver piping (previously trousers had to be the same colour as the jacket and were devoid of stripes) and lacquered gaiters and leather gloves – firstly brown and then white or cream.
